About Chinese Healing Herbs
For thousands of years, various cultures have used natural plant derived substances as medicine. The Chinese have taken herbal medicine to the highest level of "art form", the efficacy of which has, in recent years, being proven by science-based testing in laboratories around the world.
Herbs taken in various forms including decoctions of pills and encapsulated powders form an important part of the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with Acupuncture, diet, Tui Na and Tao Yin.
Treatment strategies vary but generally the traditional Chinese medical practitioner will seek to deal with the underlying cause of a problem. Getting at the cause is not always possible in the early stages of treatment particularly as symptoms will often "mask" the underlying condition.
For this reason, treatment strategies often involve a two-fold approach of treating the symptom and the apparent cause at various times and stages of the treatment cycle; this may be likened to the concept of "approaching the son to get to the father".
From this herbal “lore” has evolved a sophisticated industry, a product of which is the development of tried and tested Herbal Formulas which are known to be safe and effective for specific ailments.
